William Dongois studied trumpet in Reims and Paris. He taught playing this instrument at the same time being a member of the Grand Th??tre de Reims orchestra and performing with the Wind-brass quintet of Champagne-Ardenne. Having got diplomas for harmony, fugue and counterpoint, enriched his knowledge of history of musical language (class of Olivier Trachier) he discovered for himself music repertoire of the 16th-18th centuries and started playing zink (baroque cornet). His teachers were such masters as Jean-Pierre Canihac and Jordi Savall, Bruce Dickey at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
At present William Dongois is one of the leading zink-players all over the world, a legendary musician and improvisator. He performs with Jordi Savall and Hesp?rion XX (XXI), Ren? Jacobs and Concerto Vocale, with La Fenice, Les Sacqueboutiers de Toulouse, Concerto Palatino, Tragicomedia, Elyma, Musica Fiata, Weser Renaissance Bremen, Le Po?me Harmonique, Capella de la Torre, Les Bor?ades de Montr?al.
William Dongois is professor of the Centre de Musique Ancienne de Gen?ve teaching zink and improvisation at probations and workshops in France, Germany and Austria, and also is founder and artistic director of the ensemble Le Concert Bris?.
